Susan,
This is a great idea, to introduce ourselves…To start, my name is Valerie. I now live on the Pacific Northwest coast in California. For those of you who don’t know, all of California is NOT sun, beaches with Palm trees and tans. it is cold, rocky sometimes sunny with Redwoods and no tans. I love it here.
I currently work for a no kill animal adoption center (my past work as a Vet Tech comes in very handy). I am an artist. I work in clay primarily but also draw. I am currently studying Reiki and have completed Reiki I and II. I have had my animals talk to me many times in their own way. Due to that and because I work with animals daily, I am delving deeper into animal communication. No matter how old we are, there is always room for learning something new or adding to what we already know.
I have 3 cats, a 4 month old kitten , 1 dog, 1 horse, 1 parrot, 1 cockatiel and a couple of fish. That pretty much rounds out my animal kingdom. My dog and my kitten were adopted from the shelter where I work. The others came from different backgrounds. They each have their own special personalities from sweet to wild.
I have worn many hats in my life from trail rider at horse rental stables, to bartender to Veterinary Technician and county welfare worker. All of these, in there own way, have given me insight and experience for life in so many ways. If we look back into our lives at all we have done, I am sure all of us will find good and bad but all of it was lessons we can tap into now for help in time of need.
Thank you for giving me this time and space.

Valerie,
As I read your intro. it strikes to ask “when is your book coming out?!” I think/hope you consider putting your many “hats” to pen! 🙂
Can you say shortly what was one moment for you that still remains a constant guide for you today? You seem to be a person who has frequently crossed lines to offer a hand or find a true experience. I think many of us want for that and often forget to recognize when we actually do it! The animals hold us steady, patiently so we can continue on…would you agree?
Thank you Susan for this unexpected format,
Denise

Denise,
As I don’t check my email during the work week, I make up the time on weekends. Susan, however, does keep a good watch on this site. She emailed me to tell me I have a response with questions. I am going to copy your response and ponder it while at work today. It’s a great question but I would have to think about what moment is a constant guide to me. I don’t think there is any one single moment but I will get back to you with an answer.
Thank you for your thought.
Valerie
Denise,
Sorry to be getting back to your question so late. I like to have time to answer rather than give a rush answer in the busy scheme of life.
Book…well I don’t think I have led as interesting a life as anyone else..just a different kind of life.
But as for any one moment that has stayed with me to this day as a guide, I really haven’t found one. I have been thinking of this so I could have a definite answer for you but I don’t. I think I look for adventure or maybe it looks for me. The things I have done seem to be offered to me somehow and they are all in a realm of what interests me, so I just ‘go for it’.
I would like to add that since I have completed Reiki II training, I have been wanting to have more time to devote to practicing this…and to have more time to work on my pottery. My kennel job is good but I want more time for other things…and BOOM! suddenly without warning, hours at work have been cut. I now have 4 days off a week! just what I wanted. I have time for Reiki and clay! But who and where am I going to practice this Reiki on? BOOM! A woman in my animal first aid class has befriended me. Out of nowhere, I asked her last week if she has ever heard of Reiki. Yes, she has and she wants to have training. She also has a kennel and is willing to let me come practice on her dogs! I wanted to include my son and granddaughter in this but didn’t know if my son is open to spiritual healings etc, etc. When I told him about this, he too is interested and had seen a fellow on TV speaking of Reiki. When these kinds of things happen, I truly believe I am being guided to where I want and need to be. This makes me feel all that has happened in my life, and IS happening in all of our lives, is a guidance from somewhere to put us where we need to be. So with that in mind, I have no actual moment just numerous moments of guidance. Looking back over the years confirms my thought on this.
I think there are signs given to us…and if we watch them, we will see where we are being led.
Happy traveling,
Valerie
Hey Valerie, it’s Yukon Kerry. I hope I’m not blathering on here out of context, but I’m guessing it was you who posted a comment for me?
So with your experience in the shelter….. is it truly unusual that the dogs didn’t bark on the day I picked Farley up? And then began howling after we left? To me it was a powerful and heart-wrenching experience, but I wonder if that’s how it often is when a dog leaves the shelter? I think the dogs sensed I wasn’t there for them. What do you think?
I’m also interested in animal communication. I have a Basic Course CD from Penelope Smith who lives in California. I hope to workshop with her sometime. It’s a little hard for me to access, well, most things, given that I live in the middle of nowhere, but the time will come when I can pursue it. I met an animal communication instructor who came up here on other business and I ended up fully organizing a workshop, and at the last minute she became seriously ill and is still recovering 2 years later.
I’ve also taken 3 levels of Energy Healing work and have an interest in using it with animals. It sounds like we have a few things in common. Including clay. I spent several years as a potter before I switched to glass blowing.
I’m in the process of making big changes. I’m watching for the signs to see if I’m on track. Oh please let me see the signs! I’m not so good at just going for it. As I get older I have a harder time with change. Maybe I’ve just had too much of it and I’m not entirely ready yet, but at the same time there is a momentum that can’t be denied. I’m trying to embrace it and not be afraid of the adventure…. You seem to be on track. That’s great.
